Exploring cultures, their history, cuisine, and wines is one of the more enjoyable perks of travel. Much can be learned about a people from their approach to eating and socializing. And sharing stories and news with friends over a delicious repast  - what's not to like?

One way to really delve into this area is to embark on a specialized form of travel: a Wine and Culinary Tour. Such excursions can be designed locally or regionally, and numerous wine and culinary tour opportunities abound in virtually every corner of the globe.

The real question to ask is: Where do I want to begin? For the domestic USA, most folks immediately think of California's Napa Valley. Those looking across the pond focus quite often on France's Burgundy region or Tuscany's Chianti region. Yet, many other wine regions exist in the US as well as Spain, Greece, Australia, Germany, South Africa, Chile, and Portugal, just to name a few. A list of great wine producing vinlands in the US include, among others, Oregon, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, and Kansas.

Wine tours consist of visiting the wineries and sometimes their vinyards, too. Naturally, you'll visit their tasting rooms to sample various vintages and signature varieties. Tastings may or may not be accompanied with canapes or hors d'oevres. Some wineries let you "bottle your own" for a fun souvenir.

Culinary tours which include sampling or tasting of delectable and interesting dishes often include opportunities to visit with the chefs, participate in a hands-on cooking class, agritours to see where the ingredients originate, and more.
